New York University bound

Danielle Hanks was one of many anxious high school students at Ripley-Greer Studios in New York City over Thanksgiving break.?

She went there to audition for Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Drama at New York University. The audition must have gone well because NYU Tisch recently notified her she was accepted and has been assigned to the New Studio for musical theater studies.

?I?ve had some great teachers along the way who helped me get to this point,? said Hanks.

Daughter of Dr. Debra Hanks and Dave Hanks of Porterville, Danielle is a native of Porterville.

The November auditions attracts thousands of students, her mother said.

?More than 2,500 students apply to NYU Tisch every year, but only about 15 percent are accepted,? Hanks said.

Her father also praised her and said Danielle has worked towards the goal for many years and hopes to establish a career in entertainment.

?She started with local acting and voice lessons with Eileen Farrell in Three Rivers. She then studied in Los Angeles once a week for two years. The drive down for that four hour class gave her plenty of time to rehearse,? Dave Hanks said.

Danielle spent her summers in training as well. She attended Opera Camp at UC Irvine, then the TeenAge Drama Workshop at California State University in Northridge, the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood, and finally Broadway Artists Alliance in New York City.?

?Last summer, for BAA?s showcase she performed at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in New York. Her monologue, ?Back in the Saddle,? written by Dennis LaValle, was a hit,? Dave Hanks said. ?Performing this, just off-Broadway, put her a bit closer to achieving her dream.?

Danielle graduates in May from Cate School in Carpenteria.
