But, in an effort to promote its newish apps for Android tablets and the Kindle Fire, the company's giving the entire number-crunching cow away for free -- at least through this weekend. NEW YORK (AP) ? Will Ferrell's swashbuckling newscaster Ron Burgundy had his own breaking news to announce Wednesday night: A sequel to "Anchorman" is finally happening.
Ferrell made a surprise, in-character appearance on "Conan" to regale the audience with a flute solo and declare a deal with Paramount Pictures. A sequel to the 2004 hit comedy, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," has long been discussed.
Ferrell informed host Conan O'Brien: "It's official, there will be a sequel to 'Anchorman.'"
Earlier, Paramount had declined a musical plan put forth by Ferrell and director Adam McKay that also included a proposed Broadway stage show. No details on the project were immediately available but McKay, producer Judd Apatow, and co-stars Paul Rudd and Steve Carell are expected to return.

LONDON (Reuters) - At least 20 commodities traders, several senior, have left Goldman Sachs in the past months, dealing a blow to Wall Street's long-time king of commodities as talent moves to better paying trading houses and hedge funds.
The departures, according to around a dozen insiders and trading sources, mirror the exodus of traders from rival banks over the past two years.
The outflow is driven by shrinking profits and tighter regulation of banking, which gives funds and trading houses greater scope to trade and to reward success.
Goldman said the departures will not have an impact on its standing in commodities.
"We are not downsizing our commodities business. It remains a core part of our franchise," a spokesman for Goldman said. "The positions we need to refill, we will refill".
A source at Goldman said the departures were a combination of resignations and regular annual headcount reductions, and were not specific to commodities but happening across all the bank's businesses.
But insiders say some of the departures were triggered by unusually low bonuses at Goldman, widely recognized over the past 20 years as the most prestigious and well paying of the big five banks in commodities alongside JP Morgan , Morgan Stanley , Deutsche Bank and Barclays .
Earlier this month, Reuters reported that Goldman had ceded leadership in commodities trading revenues to JPMorgan, according to regulatory disclosures by the banks.
"Goldman held on to talent a little longer than other banks because it has a deeper pocket. It (the exodus) happened to other banks a lot earlier," said one trader who recently left from a major bank to a trading house.
"It is definitely a part of regular turnover at any banks that happens after bonus every year. But indeed a large number of Goldman guys are jumping ship at the same time and going to non-banks," he added. "What this means is even Goldman can't do anything and even they can't make money, because of regulations".
FUNDS AND TRADERS HIRE
Goldman sources stress the only departure at the most senior partner level was that of Jeff Resnick, the global head of trading in commodities, who resigned after many years at Goldman without joining any other firm.
However, several managing directors - one level below partners - have left Goldman recently.
"Every year there is a trimming of staff at the analyst, vice-president and director level but the number of managing directors leaving commodities strikes me as higher than I've noticed in the past," said Will Ainger, co-editor of SparkSpread, a publication that tracks the moves of people in commodities businesses.
Among managing directors, Ben Green joined trader Mercuria's metals desk; Macquarie has hired Arun Assumall as head of new commodity products; Europe's oil trading head Taimur Hassan went to a hedge fund; U.S. power trading head Raj Sethi, U.S. oil trading head Andre Eriksson, European power and gas specialist Phil Beatty and Australian power expert Troy Wilson resigned.
On levels below partners and managing directors, Mercuria hired Liam Brown for its metals desk, Graham Capital Management recruited Laura Hunt as a power trader, Vitol hired Tom Baker for its oil desk, Koch took on Michelle Lei as an oil analyst.
Oil derivative trader Ben Jacobs will join a hedge fund, London-based emissions trader Andrew Mugadu and coal trader Bruno Roch resigned. Some had worked for Goldman for 10-15 years.
"Many of those are proven successful senior people so it is very hard to imagine they have been all fired," said a former senior commodities trading business employee at Goldman.
Goldman has this month begun a new round of staff cuts in its trading and investment banking to reduce costs following the elimination of 2,400 positions last year, sources familiar with the matter said earlier this month.
Recent staff cuts have been less drastic than in March 2011, when 5 percent of its trading staff was let go.
Goldman is known to create staff cuts lists early in the year and send at-risk employees a signal through low bonuses that are handed out in February. Those who do not get the hint are let go in mid-to-late March.
"Some very decent guys just weren't paid properly. So they said: 'Screw it' and went to funds," another insider said.
"GOLDMAN CHAIR"
Goldman is believed to employ around 400 traders in its commodities trading division, which generated $1.6 billion last year, according to regulatory filings, down from as much as $4.5 billion in 2009.
Banks dramatically expanded their trading operations in the early 2000s to capitalize on booming commodities prices. But new regulations being introduced after the 2008 financial crisis drastically limit risky investments with their own capital, known as proprietary trading, or with clients' money.
Insiders say Goldman has long made a point of crediting the unrivalled scale and scope of its trading operation, rather than the skill of individuals, as the key ingredient of its success.
The latest departures will test that assertion.
"Goldman did a very good job of convincing people that it wasn't the trader, it was the chair," one senior commodity executive said. "Other companies are coming along and are ready to pay more for that talent."
A former Goldman insider said that new rules on limits on the amount a bank is allowed to hold in derivatives in certain commodities, known as position limits, meant that banks would inevitably have to scale down their businesses.
"They are not getting "hedge exemptions" for using commodity futures to hedge large synthetic commodity index portfolios for investor clients, nor when hedging large OTC (over-the-counter) derivative deals with oil and metals producers," he said.
Hedge exemptions from futures position limits are easier for oil companies or trading companies with large physical assets that can point to an exact amount of stored oil in a tank that is being hedged by futures, or to similar stockpiles in metals.
"Goldman's platform has had a large proprietary component. The percentage of payouts at trading companies are difficult to compete with for prop guys," said the head of trading at a large rival of Goldman.
Trading houses, most of them are unlisted, pay bonuses in cash while a big component of Goldman's annual bonuses are stock options vesting in 3-5 years.
Bank bonuses are generally down.
Citigroup cut last year's bonus by about 30 percent. Morgan Stanley capped 2011 cash bonuses at $125,000 per person. Goldman Sachs snipped compensation by over 20 percent, and Bank of America reduced the cash portion of its bonus by 75 percent.
To take one example in Europe, Barclays Capital saw a 32 percent reduction in bonuses.
"At a trading house, it tends to be about 10-15 percent of the profit individual traders make," said a former trader at a bank, now working for a trading house. He said a trader can earn up to 10 percent on the first $1.5 million he makes and up to 15 percent on everything above that sum during a given year.
"But traders take it granted if you make profit. If you make losses you get fired on an ad hoc basis more easily than at banks."

Despite the highly-publicized takedown of Megaupload, one other high-profile site has a reason to celebrate this week ? at least a little bit. RapidShare has been deemed legal by a German court, though only in terms of its core functionality.
According to the ruling, RapidShare is just hosting files online. There?s nothing wrong with doing that. However, things get a little more complicated when someone tries to access those files ? many of which are accessed by others.?To that end, RapidShare has to keep a watchful eye on where downloaders are coming from. From forum posts to linkdumps, RapidShare must make sure that ?infringing links? are taken down whenever they?re spotted.
But the judge in this case did also declare that RapidShare has no responsibility to actively monitor uploaded files. Until an infringing link is posted somewhere, those files are just nondescript bits stored on a hard drive.?RapidShare?s CEO says they?ve been doing this on their own for quite some time and that the court?s decision validates their business model. That?s a good thing, but the verdict also shows that the courts are watching closely ? and that there will no doubt be repercussions should RapidShare slip up.
While this ruling should let others in the digital locker and file hosting business breathe a little more easily, it certainly doesn?t signal the end of scrutiny and litigation from rights holders. As long as file sharing sites make sure that no external sites link to content that definitely infringes ? and promptly remove such content when it?s discovered ? everything should be just fine.
It?s probably safe to assume that groups like the MPAA and RIAA would never stoop to having files anonymously planted to get a service like RapidShare in trouble. It?s not like they?ve tried that before on torrent sites or anything?

Just three months after major reform to the workers compensation law and we are already faced with more proposed changes. Senate Republicans James Marleau (primary), Michael Kowall, David Robertson, and Jack Brandenburg have sponsored a bill that would exempt certain?trucking companies from having to provide workers compensation coverage for their drivers.
Workers compensation pays benefits to people who are hurt on-the-job. Some employers try to game the system by classifying all of their employees as independent contractors. This is called employee misclassification and it is a big problem.
Our experience shows that trucking companies are some of the worst offenders. We believe that Senate Bill No. 1012 (2012)?will do nothing but institutionalize this problem.
What?s the big deal with employee misclassification?
When an employer unfairly classifies its employees as independent contractors, it pays less into the workers compensation system. This is done at the expense of other employers and?insurance companies.
In addition, truck drivers who are hurt on-the-job don?t just disappear because there is no workers compensation. Private health insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare must pick up the tab. This legislation will be a cost shift away from the responsible employer to other payers.
The Second Injury Fund is another example of how employee misclassification is a problem. It is financed by self-insured employers and insurance companies. The amount that must be contributed to the fund is based upon a proportionate share of indemnity benefits paid and insurance premiums written. When a company misclassifies its employees as independent contractors, it pays less into the fund to everyone?s detriment.
Senate Bill No. 1012 (2012)
The workers compensation law was just amended in December 2011. These changes were made to update and bring clarity to the law.
On and after January 1, 2013, the issue of whether an individual is an employee or independent contractor will be resolved using a 20-factor test announced by the IRS.
Senate Bill 1012 (2012) carves out an exception for the trucking and messenger courier industries.? It creates a complicated set of rules to determine whether an individual is an employee or independent contractor.
We believe this exception will lead to more litigation and greater uncertainty. It will also open the door for other special?interest groups to try to amend the workers compensation law for their own benefit.

Shakhashiri, Ph.D., president of the American Chemical Society (ACS) the world's largest scientific society today described initiatives on climate science, the education of future scientists and commemoration of a landmark federal law that engendered some of the nation's greatest universities. Those initiatives will be the theme of Shakhashiri's presidential year.
A chemistry professor who holds the William T. Evjue Distinguished Chair for the Wisconsin Idea at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Shakhashiri discussed the projects during a press briefing at the ACS' 243rd National Meeting & Exposition. Almost 18,000 scientists and others are expected to attend the meeting, one of the largest scientific gatherings of 2012. They will hear more than 11,700 reports Sunday through Thursday on new advances in scientific fields that range from astronomy to zoology, and view new laboratory instruments, books, journals and other products in the large exhibition.
After ACS' founding in 1876, a tradition emerged that each new ACS president defines a theme and identifies initiatives for the society during his or her year in office. Shakhashiri's theme, "Advancing Chemistry and Communicating Chemistry," incorporates responses to some of the great challenges facing scientists and society in the 21st century.
"As a learned society, ACS and its members have significant responsibilities to bring our scientific and educational acumen to address human needs," said Shakhashiri. "We advance chemistry through research, education and innovation. Communicating chemistry to fellow scientists and to the world is one of ACS' core functions. Communicating the values and role of the chemical sciences to nonspecialists is another of our important responsibilities."
Shakhashiri's initiatives involve the 150th anniversary of a landmark federal law called the Morrill Land Grant Act, education of scientists at the graduate level for the 21st century and climate science.
Morrill Land Grant Sesquicentennial Celebration
This initiative commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Morrill Land Grant Act of 1862, which provided states with 30,000 acres of land for each of its members of Congress. States sold the land to raise money to establish colleges focusing on agriculture, science, engineering and liberal arts. Without that money, it would have been impossible for states to fund such institutions. A second Morrill Act in 1890 was passed specifically to support land-grant institutions for African-Americans. Today, more than 100 institutions have land-grant status, including many historically Black colleges and universities. Cornell University, The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Ohio State University and Tuskegee University are just a few examples of land-grant institutions. Land-grant institutions today produce more than half of all Ph.D. scientists.
ACS will celebrate this occasion with a retrospective and a prospective look at chemistry. For a "look back," Shakhashiri invites chemists to join in by publicizing the accomplishments of chemical scientists from their institutions, regardless of land-grant status. "We should embrace and celebrate our rich contributions as chemists, as a discipline, and as a professional society to the larger society in which we live," he said. He explained that the 243rd National Meeting & Exposition being held here this week offers many opportunities to "look ahead" at where chemistry is going. Attendees will hear about the latest chemistry innovations directly from scientists who are on the cutting edge.
ACS Presidential Commission on Graduate Education
Graduate education is advanced education that students pursue, typically after earning a bachelor's, or undergraduate, degree. Graduate education includes doctoral degrees, or Ph.D.s, almost 50,000 of which are granted annually. Students in science Ph.D. programs typically take courses for the first two or three years, then conduct research. The programs may last four to six years. Afterwards, newly-minted Ph.D.s may join the workforce or continue as "postdoctoral fellows" for another two to three years before seeking jobs in academia or industry.
The commission will examine the purposes of graduate education and research in the chemical sciences and the needs and aspirations of graduate students. The commission is chaired by Larry R. Faulkner, Ph.D., who is president emeritus of the University of Texas at Austin. Paul L. Houston, Ph.D., is executive director and dean of the College of Sciences and professor, School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The commission and its working groups will have "listening sessions" with graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, early-career faculty, underrepresented groups, business groups, institutions of higher education, professional and educational organizations, and international leaders in science and education. From these meetings, the commission will develop recommendations to modify graduate education to successfully prepare students for their professional careers and to face changing human needs over the next 50 years.

Chemists are well-versed in the science underpinning their own specialties, such as developing new medicines, products to enhance food production, plastics and other materials that impact everyday life in positive ways. Many, however, may be less familiar with the intricacies of climate science, such as the number of gases (in addition to carbon dioxide) that can be greenhouse gases and, indeed, the fact that "greenhouse" is a misnomer for the actual mechanisms of global warming.
To equip chemists with a deeper understanding of the science of climate change, the working group is developing a Web-based toolkit that explains the topic for use by ACS members to educate themselves. The American Chemical Society Climate Science Toolkit toolkit explains concepts, such as which gases are greenhouse gases, their sources, changes over time and other essential information.
"If, between now and the time I die, I don't succeed in having an intelligent conversation with my neighbor about evolution, that would be very sad," he says. "But if I don't succeed in having an intelligent conversation with my neighbor about climate change, the consequences later in the century could be catastrophic." Jerry A. Bell, Ph.D., a noted chemistry educator who is a faculty associate with the Wisconsin Initiative for Science Literacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, chairs the Climate Science Working Group.

LONDON (Reuters) - The heads of four leading airlines have warned the British government there could be chaos at London's airports during this summer's Olympic Games, which would cause major embarrassment to the country unless a deal can be reached over their concerns.
In a blunt letter to transport chiefs, British Airways, bmi, Virgin Atlantic and Easyjet said time was running out to tackle the expected surge in air traffic and its impact.
Failure to address their concerns could bring misery to millions of regular travellers and those coming to London for the world's biggest sporting event, the airlines argue.
"As the situation currently stands the industry believes that there is a significant risk of severe delay and disruption at all of London's major airports unless urgent action is taken," they wrote in a letter seen by Reuters on Saturday.
"Time is running out to ensure that any changes to procedures and the appropriate training are in place prior to the Games."
Britain, already the sixth most visited country in the world, anticipates an additional 700,000 international travellers during the Olympics, which begin on July 27.
London's Heathrow Airport, Britain's busiest, runs at 99 percent of its capacity on an average day, and Gatwick, south of the capital, is operating at full capacity at peak times, while unforeseen events such as poor weather conditions have caused huge problems and queues in the past.
Businesses and airlines have long argued that Heathrow needs a third runway to cope with rising demand, a move blocked by the government because of environmental concerns.
On Thursday, Willy Walsh, chief executive of International Airlines Group (IAG), which owns BA and Spain's Iberia, described Britain's aviation policy as an "unholy mess".
In the letter to the government, whose signatories included Andy Lord, director of operations at BA, and Corneel Koster, Virgin's director of operations, safety and security, the airlines highlighted six areas of concern.
AIR SPACE FEARS
These include the resilience of air space in coping with the number of planes taking off and landing during the Olympics, the impact of any adverse weather, and the effect any security incident might have.
It said air traffic controllers had put forward five proposals about prioritising flights in southeast England during the Games but these had been rejected by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Meanwhile the government's Department for Transport (DfT) was wrongly under the impression that the industry was happy with the steps that had been taken so far, they wrote.
"This is far from the truth," said the letter, also signed by Easyjet's Chief Operations Officer Warwick Brady and Sean Butler, head of operations at bmi.
A meeting between the airlines, the DfT and CAA is planned for March 22 and the letter said it was vital that a deal was reached then. "Failure to respond leaves the UK vulnerable to the type of major disruption that will cause significant reputational damage and would be foolhardy and reckless."
A DfT spokeswoman said it had already promised a range of special measures to prevent scheduled air services from disruption, by increasing air space capacity as well as putting in temporary restrictions for some air traffic.
"We are confident that the majority of these additional issues have now been addressed and we look forward to discussing them with the airlines concerned at a meeting next week," the spokeswoman said.
