Mercer Island sports earns spring academic honors | Sports brief

Three Mercer Island High School spring sports teams have been named spring academic state champions.

The Mercer Island baseball team was named the 3A state academic team with a grade point average of 3.477 for the 15 members of the team coached by Dominic Woody.

The boys track team was also named the 3A state academic champion. The team, coached by Elliot Powell, had a GPA of 3.599 with 26 members.

The boys tennis team, though it plays league games in the fall, finishes the playoffs in the spring, was also honored. The team, coached by Jamie Dieveney, has a 3.731 GPA among the 14 team members.
