Morne Morkal returns to South Africa squad for Sri Lanka tour

Morne Morkal, who missed the recently-concluded Champions Trophy due to quad strain, has been named in South Africa squad for this month?s limited-overs tour of Sri Lanka.

The group will be head to Sri Lanka to play five one-day internationals and three T20 games under the stewardship of newly-appointed head coach Russell Domingo. The Test leg of the tour was slashed due to the heretic schedule of both sides.

Dale Steyn, who earlier missed the Champions Trophy, has been sidelined again as needs almost three weeks to get fully recovered from the side-strain and groin injury. Resting Steyn is South Africa plan to ensure his availability for the forthcoming tours of India and Australia.

The only change in the squad that exited at the knock-out stage of Champions Trophy is the inclusion of wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock, who is likely to partner Hashim Amla on top. However, he would?ve to compete with Alviro Petersen for that.

Former skipper Graeme Smith was not considered for the selection as he was still recovery from the ankle injury he sustained during the Champions Trophy. Another notable absentee is Jacques Kallis, who hasn?t played an ODI in 17 months and speculations are growing over his future in limited-over games. s

Leg-spinner Imran Tahir has been included into the squad for the T20 leg of the tour. The Pakistan-origin made a comeback into the squad following his strong performance in the domestic circuit.

The five-match ODI series between South Africa and Sri Lanka will get underway at Colombo on June 20.? The one-dayers will be followed by three T20 games.
